Dr. Shah is Professor of Medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, the Bartlett Family Professor for Gastrointestinal Malignancies, Chief of the Solid Tumor Service and Director of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Program in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology. Dr. Shah’s area of research is in understanding gastrointestinal cancer disease biology and in the development of novel therapeutics for gastrointestinal malignancies. He also oversees complex multidisciplinary collaborations in the area of Gastrointestinal Oncology. Dr. Shah has a long track record in translational sciences and clinical trials. He was central to the development of anti-angiogenic therapy in gastric cancer, identification of the safest, most effective dose of trastuzumab in combination with chemotherapy in upper GI malignancies, improving the efficacy of immunotherapy in gastric and esophageal cancers, and developing novel therapies such as high dose vitamin C for colorectal cancer. Dr. Shah leads an active research group for overcoming resistance to cytotoxic therapy for gastrointestinal malignancies, and has had several trainees that have gone on to successfully continue in academic oncology. Dr. Shah has authored over hundreds of peer reviewed publications, has led multiple scientific meetings, and has held several national leadership roles.
