Dr. Michel Makaroun graduated from The American University of Beirut in 1978 and finished his training at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he has spent his entire professional career. He is a Professor of Surgery and Clinical Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh and was Chief of Vascular Surgery for the last 25 years until October 2022. He holds The Marshall W. Webster Jr. M.D. Chair in Vascular Surgery and the founder of the Vascular Surgery training program at UPMC which is the largest Vascular training program in the US. He has Chaired the SVS foundation and served as President of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, the Eastern Vascular Society, the World Federation of Vascular Societies, and the Association of Program Directors in Vascular Surgery. He is a member of numerous surgical and vascular societies and has lectured widely both nationally and internationally. He has authored or coauthored over 250 peer reviewed publications and more than 50 book chapters.
