Jafar Golzarian, M.D. is an ABR certified Professor of Radiology at the University of Minnesota and a Key Opinion leader in the area of Interventional Radiology, embolization and oncology. A 1988 graduate from University of Brussels School of Medicine, then complete his residency in Radiology followed by an Interventional Radiology Fellowship at Erasme Hospital, University of Brussels School of Medicine in 1994.
He is an active member with the ABR, ECR, RSNA, SIR, Société Belge de Gastroentérologie, Société Française de Radiologie, SCIR Europe. He is a Fellow at SIR and CIRSE, Gold medal of Iranian Society of Radiology and Honorary member of Société Royale Belge de Radiologie and Chinese college of Interventionalists.
His current areas of research interest is in the field of embolization, on Prostate artery embolization, Embolization for management of Osteoarthritis, management of Endoleak, GI bleeding, portal hypertension and endovascular management of liver tumors. He has an embolization and chemistry lab with basic research focused on development of Bioresorbable embolic microspheres, Resorbable drug eluting particles, new liquid embolics, Drug loaded bioresorbable hydrogels, animal models for management of Osteoarthritis and development of models for understanding of flow dynamic during embolization. His basic research resulted in many new materials and over 12 patents.He has authored over 120 peer reviewed publications; a textbook on Embolotherapy and over 14 book chapters. He has over 450 invited or peer-reviewed lectures.He is Co-Founder of GEST, leading international meeting in the field of embolotherapy as well as Co-Founder of of multiple consulting companies and startups.
