Jafar Golzarian, M.D. is an ABR certified Professor of Radiology at the University of Minnesota and the founder of North Star Vascular and Interventional Center. He is a Key Opinion leader in Interventional Radiology, embolization, and oncology. A 1988 graduate from the University of Brussels School of Medicine, then completed his residency in Radiology followed by an Interventional Radiology Fellowship at Erasme Hospital, University of Brussels School of Medicine in 1994.
He is the founder of GEST meeting and an active member of the ABR, SIR, Société Belge de Gastroentérologie, Société Française de Radiologie, Cirse. He is a Fellow at SIR and CIRSE, a Gold medal of the Iranian Society of Radiology, and an Honorary member of Société Royale Belge de Radiologie and Chinese college of Interventionalists.
His current areas of research interest are Prostate artery embolization, Embolization for the management of Osteoarthritis, GI bleeding, portal hypertension, and endovascular management of liver tumors. He has been involved with basic research focused on the development of Bioresorbable embolic microspheres, Resorbable drug-eluting particles, new liquid embolics, Drug loaded bioresorbable hydrogels, animal models for the management of Osteoarthritis and the development of models for the understanding of flow dynamic during embolization. His basic research resulted in many new materials and over 20 patents. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications; a textbook on Embolotherapy and over 14 book chapters. He has over 500 invited or peer-reviewed lectures.
