Susan Slager
Dr
Endowed Professor of Lymphoma Research
Mayo Clinic

Susan L. Slager, Ph.D., is an endowed professor of lymphoma research at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Her research program focuses on understanding the etiology and prognosis of lymphoma, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and its precursor condition, monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis (MBL). Through her leadership and collaborative efforts, her program has identified the majority of inherited susceptibility variants for CLL. She has demonstrated that these inherited variants are a strong and validated predictor of risk of CLL. Her program has also improved the understanding of the etiological factors and clinical consequences of MBL, a common hematological condition. She leads the Mayo Clinic MBL Biobank Cohort, with over 11,000 individuals screened for MBL, along with the Mayo Clinic Family Study of Lymphoma with an additional 1,000 individuals screened for MBL. Her program has demonstrated that MBL is not only a precursor to CLL but also a strong risk factor for other lymphoid cancers, solid tumors, and serious infections. She has given numerous presentations both nationally and internationally, has led 15 NIH funded grants and contracts, and is a prolific author of over 360 peer-reviewed articles.
