An experienced Board Certified Family Medicine Physician, he practiced full-scope family medicine in a small rural East Texas town for 24 years, beginning in 1981. He served 15 years as a solo physician then joined a forming integrated delivery system, Trinity Mother Francis, in 1996, by whom he was employed until retirement in 2022. He continued ambulatory family medicine until 2017. He served many leadership and governance roles within the system, including committees, Board member and chair, Chief of Primay Care, and began administrative duties in 2010.
His first project was to provide clinical leadership to certify all 120 primary care clinicians as NCQA Patient Centered Medical Homes, which was a success at the highest level. Population Health was next and he was successful in implementation of that department. He led performance to value-based commercial contracts as well as Medicare Shared Savings Plan Accountable Care Organization contracts for TMF then following the merger with CHRISTUS Health, beginning in 2017, leading their 4 state ACO to successful quality, patient satisfaction and shared savings. Beginning in 2019, he also lead the CHRISTUS Health Plan clinical services until retirement December of 2022.
His passion is in service of the Lord and of all patients in a population, providing the opportunity to optimize their care according to their age, gender, chronic condition, and social circumstances.
He is married, 4 children (1 deceased), and 4 grandchildren. Leisure time is spent with family as well as running, playing golf and reading to learn more.
