Sloan Manning, MD, is a family physician practicing in High Point, NC. He is the founding editor of The Primary Care Companion for CNS Disorders. Dr Manning earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS and completed his residency in family medicine at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Gadsden, AL. Dr Manning is board certified in family practice. Dr Manning’s research interests include integrated somatic/mental healthcare systems in primary care, physician education in primary care psychiatry, and disorders of the bipolar spectrum, including their temperamental underpinnings and pharmacologic management. Dr Manning has been the recipient of a variety of research grants, including one from the Health Resources and Services Administration and has been the principal investigator for several primary care psychiatry studies. He has lectured at research conferences on bipolar disorder in primary care settings for the National Institute of Mental Health and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. Dr Manning has authored or co-authored more than 60 letters, articles, and editorials in a variety of journals, including The Journal of Family Practice, Archives of Family Medicine, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, Comprehensive Psychiatry and the Journal of Affective Disorders. He has provided peer review for the Journal of Affective Disorders, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, Primary Care Companion for CNS Disorders, Clinical Psychology Review, and Psychiatric Services.
