I am a vascular surgeon and qualitative health services researcher. I have obtained funding from the Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, the American Heart Association, the Society of Vascular Surgery, and the FDA Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education to study qualitative outcomes and quality of life in patients with limb ischemia as well as disparities in the delivery of vascular healthcare. My research interests focus on the improvement of the informed-decision making process in patients who suffer from peripheral arterial disease. Specifically, I am interested in measuring patient quality of life and how patient preferences impact the decision to choose aggressive attempts at limb salvage versus amputating a limb. I am currently invested in the formulation and refinement of a quality of life instrument so that it may be validated with a national, multi-institutional collaborative and subsequently implemented into routine vascular clinical practice as a way to inform decision-making for CLI patients who face revascularization versus amputation.
