Peter A Levine, Ph.D., is the developer of Somatic Experiencing® (SE™), a naturalistic and neurobiological approach to healing trauma, which he has developed over the past 50 years. He holds a doctorate in Biophysics from UC Berkeley and a doctorate in Psychology from International University. Dr Levine is the author of several best-selling books on trauma, including Waking the Tiger, Healing Trauma (published in over 29 languages). He is the Founder and President of the Ergos Institute of Somatic Education, which is dedicated to Community Outreach and Post-Advanced SE Training. He is the Founder and Advisor for Somatic Experiencing International, which provides the professional SE Certificate program. His work is taught in over 44 countries.
In recognition of his groundbreaking therapeutic work, Dr. Levine has received multiple Lifetime Achievement awards, including from Psychotherapy Networker and from the US Association for Body-Oriented Psychotherapy. He has taught at the University of California, Berkeley, Mills College, Antioch University, the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), and the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute. He served as a stress consultant for NASA and was a member of the APA Task Force in developing responses to large-scale disasters and ethnopolitical warfare.
Dr Levine is currently a Senior Fellow and consultant at The Meadows Addiction and Trauma Treatment Center in Wickenburg, Arizona, and continues to teach trauma healing workshops internationally with the Ergos Institute and various trauma healing organizations.
