Dr. Gerber is Professor of Internal Medicine (Hematology-Oncology) and the Peter J. O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Within the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Gerber serves as Co-director of the Office of Education and Training. He previously served as Associate Director of Clinical Research, Co-leader of the Experimental Therapeutics Program, and Co-director of the Lung Disease Oriented Team. He is an active clinical investigator with more than 250 publications and continuous federal and foundation research funding for more than 15 years.

As a thoracic medical oncologist, Dr. Gerber is highly involved in lung cancer clinical trials. Within the National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN), he has served as a Study Chair for the E4512 trial and as a Co-Chair for the S1900E and NRG LU002 trials. He has also conducted extensive research on the design, implementation, and conduct of cancer clinical trials.
