Kate Nicholson has been the Executive Director and Founder of the National Pain Advocacy Center since September 2019. She launched and directs the national nonprofit dedicated to advancing the health and human rights of people in pain. The center is a coalition of scientists and clinicians, experts in health policy and civil rights, and people with lived experience of pain. They envision a world in which pain is treated equitably and effectively, https://nationalpain.org. NPAC takes no industry funding and is supported by grants from the Ford Foundation, Open Societies Foundation, Borealis Philanthropy, National Institutes of Health (NIH), and others. Nicholson’s pain and advocacy experience includes currently serving as a member of the International Association for the Study of Global Advocacy Task Force, a member of the Advisory Committee for Integrate-Pain Consortium (a joint effort of NIH and the European Union’s IMI-Pain Care), and a provisional appointee of the NIH Interagency Pain Research Coordinating Committee. Nicholson also is a broker and branch manager at Burnett Commodities in Boulder, Colorado. Her previous work experience includes attorney and manger in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, 1993-2013. She graduated from Dartmouth College and earned her JD at Harvard Law School.
