Dr. Avani K. Patel, MD, MHA is currently a concierge and sports psychiatrist and founder of her private practice, Mississippi Psychiatry & Wellness, in Jackson, Mississippi. She also currently works part-time at a community-based grant funded rehab where she works with the post-incarcerated and homeless population. She is also a consultant to other non-psychiatry physicians on dual diagnosis medication management. Dr. Patel is also a Behavioral Health Medical Director for a managed care entity in her home state of Mississippi, where she is working with the plan to establish behavioral health coverage within the Medicaid contract to serve the people of Mississippi. Dr. Patel graduated from residency training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where she also earned her Doctor of Medicine. She possesses a Master’s in Healthcare Administration with emphasis on executive level leadership (CEO/CMO) from Oklahoma State University Graduate College. She completed additional training in sports psychiatry via the International Society for Sports Psychiatry. She has completed 3 non-clinical fellowships in leadership and health equity. Dr. Patel is a powerhouse at the intersection of medicine and the boardroom. She represents Mississippi on a national platform having served on various local and national boards such as Mississippi State Medical Association, Mississippi Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association Foundation, and the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Patel has also received numerous awards, written multiple publications, and enjoys teaching via speakerships.
