Marci Brewer (she/her) is a public health professional who currently serves as the Perinatal Quality
Program Manager for the Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative (LaPQC), housed within the Louisiana
Department of Health-Office of Public Health-Bureau of Family Health. As the Perinatal Quality Program
Manager, Marci oversees the work of the LaPQC which includes initiatives and partnerships that work to
advance equity, improve outcomes and change the culture of care in Louisiana by building a quality
improvement movement focused on the implementation of evidence-based best practices.
Prior to her current role, Marci managed LaPQC initiatives focused on breastfeeding and perinatal
substance use and substance exposed newborns. Marci led the development and implementation of The
Gift, a quality designation program started in 2006 to support breastfeeding initiation and early
attachment, now housed within the LaPQC.
Marci received a Bachelor of Science in human nutrition, foods, and exercise from Virginia Tech in 2002
and was awarded a Master of Public Health, with a focus in maternal and child health, from Tulane
University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in 2008. Her passion for breastfeeding and
maternal and child health developed when she worked in Western Samoa in their Ministry of Health,
and with the WIC program in Fairfax County, Virginia. She was the 2009 recipient of the Elizabeth A.
Bennett Award for Excellence in Maternal and Child Health given by the Tulane University School of
Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
