Mark Kester
18 years law enforcement
Sergeant
Washoe County Sheriff's Office

My name is Mark Kester and I am the current Sergeant assigned to the Detention Services Unit at the Washoe County Sheriff's Office located in Reno Nevada. I have lived in Reno for over 30 years and have 18 years law enforcement experience. I live in Reno with my wife and five children.

I began my Sheriff's Office career assigned to the Detention Facility. I have worked in all areas to include Intake, General Housing, and Special Housing. I was assigned to Classification/Inmate Managment for five years. In this position I would investigate incident which occurred in detention and completed administrative hearings in accordance with facility policies.

I was later assigned to Detention Services where I began working as a case manager in law enforcement. I would assist vulnerable populations to include individuals suffering with mental health, substance use, and homelessness. I would ensure a discharge plan was created prior to release to include Medicaid, treatment programs, mental health programs, housing, and reconnection with family members. I developed a passion assisting this population and was assigned to Detention Services as the Sergeant in 2024. We have continued to grow and collaborate with community partners to include courts, public defender's office, district attorney's office, local programs/shelters, and vetted community resources.
