Sohyun Park, PhD, MS, is a Branch Chief with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch in the Division of Overdose Prevention (DOP), National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In this role, Dr. Park manages 4 teams: the Overdose Mortality Team, Overdose Morbidity Team, Innovative Epidemiology and Surveillance Teams, Overdose Data Management Team. She oversees surveillance systems that collect both fatal and nonfatal overdose surveillance data from state and local health departments (e.g., SUDORS and DOSE). Prior to coming to DOP in 2023, Dr. Park served as a team lead/lead epidemiologist with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Team in the Obesity Prevention and Control Branch within the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (DNPAO), National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, CDC. During her time with DNPAO, Dr. Park developed a wealth of expertise and experiences in the area of added sugars, sugar-sweetened beverages, drinking water, and obesity. Dr. Park joined CDC as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in 2007 and was assigned at the Florida Department of Health. Dr. Park earned her PhD degree in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Georgia, Athens in 2006. Dr. Park has authored over 138 peer-reviewed manuscripts.
