Laurie Lovejoy McNichol, MSN, RN, CNS, GNP, CWOCN, CWON-AP, WOCNF, FAAN is a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Wound Ostomy and Continence Advanced Practice Nurse at Cone Health in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Her career as a WOC Nurse in both the acute and home care settings has focused on the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries, the care of the ostomy patient with a focus on the prevention of peristomal skin complications, the identification, and management of incontinence-associated dermatitis, and the identification, prevention, and treatment of medical adhesive-related skin injuries. She was a member of the WOCN Society Task Force whose actions led to the 2021 implementation of ICD 10-CM Codes for moisture associated skin conditions. Ms. McNichol co-edited a core curriculum textbook on wound care that is now in its second edition and has authored a number of book chapters and journal articles on a variety of skin, wound, and ostomy-related topics. She has lectured widely both nationally and internationally.
An experienced nurse and nurse leader, Ms. McNichol served as the President of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB), President of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN®) and President of the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP), now the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP). She remains an active volunteer with both groups. Laurie is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and in 2017 was named the Magnet Nurse of the Year® for New Knowledge, Innovations and Improvements.
Ms. McNichol received her BSN from D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York and her MSN with a focus in gerontological nursing and post master’s certificate as a geriatric nurse practitioner from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
