Sue Creehan
MSN, RN, CWON
Independent Wound Care Nurse Consultant

Self employed

She was the program manager for the inpatient wound care team. She championed their Pressure Injury Prevention (PIP) initiative and developed a unique, comprehensive program that touched every aspect of patient care. She created and implemented a unit-based champions model and an interdisciplinary team. Under her leadership, VCU’s PI rates dramatically declined to less than 1%. She officially retired in November 2017.
Sue currently works as an independent wound nurse consultant. She has served on advisory boards and focus groups with industry, reviewed pressure injury malpractice cases for both plaintiffs and defendants, coordinated pressure injury prevention for a local nursing home, and provided educational webinars for rural and critical access hospitals for CMS.
Sue has published several articles on pressure injury prevention in peer-reviewed journals, given multiple poster presentations at national meetings, and lectured locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
Sue currently serves on the NPIAP Board as the liaison for the Patient Advisory Council. This newly added council’s purpose is to ensure the voice of the patient/client/caregiver is heard and kept as NPIAP’s focus. She is also on a task force for the Center of Excellence initiative and was newly elected to the Global Guideline Governance Group as the patient and consumer advocate.
