Duane Hospenthal
MD, PhD, FACP, FIDSA, FASTMH

Duane R. Hospenthal, MD, PhD, FACP, FIDSA, FASTMH currently serves as an Infectious Disease physician with San Antonio Infectious Disease Consultants. He is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Clinical Professor at the School of Osteopathic Medicine, University of the Incarnate Word and is the Medical Director of Infection Control and the Chief of the Infectious Diseases Section of the Baptist Health System in San Antonio. He previously served as the Infectious Disease Consultant to the United States Army Surgeon General, and has served as Chief of the Infectious Disease Service at Brooke Army Medical Center and as a Visiting Staff member at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Hospenthal has served as Principal Investigator and Associate Investigator on numerous clinical trials. He currently serves as a Member of the Executive Committee of the Emerging Infections Network (EIN) Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). He is a past President of the Armed Forces Infectious Diseases Society, the Texas Infectious Diseases Society, and the American Committee on Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers Health of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH). Dr. Hospenthal is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Internal Medicine and in Infectious Diseases. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the IDSA (FIDSA) and the ASTMH (FASTMH). Dr. Hospenthal is knowledgeable on infectious diseases, clinical trials, internal medicine, clinical research, epidemiology, infection control, and basic research, among other topics. He received his MD from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and his PhD in Medical Mycology from Michigan State University. Dr. Hospenthal completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine and his Fellowship in Infectious Diseases from Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
