Margie Rodriguez RN/MSN currently works for a children’s rehabilitation center, where children with diabilities come to receive therapies under the direction of physiatrists and thus intentionally improve the children’s quality of life. Previously she worked for 11 years beginning in 2005 for a long-term care pediatric center where she practiced wound care with medically complex pediatric children. She often found it difficult in finding literature/ studies that would assist with treatment decision making. This inspired her to write about her experience and outcomes in hopes to share and bring to the forefront the pediatric population going through wound care and treatment. In her first year working with the long-term care facility, she reduced Pressure Injuries to less than 10%. The facility was awarded a grant from the NYDOH. Amongst the many systemic changes made in the facility during her time, she created a skin care program. The program was a train the trainer with ambassadors on each neighborhood. They were relied upon for their knowledge obtained by their one-year commitment and participation in ongoing knowledge to which after the participation was rotated throughout the front-line nursing staff on all shifts. Many parts of the skin care program remain and are embedded in their processes to this day. Despite it has been a decade since its inception. Margie considers herself an avid learner and a lifelong student wanting to see more in this area of studies and writing. She is honored to be here today and sharing her experience with you.
