Howard Steinman was born and raised Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, CA and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. He completed his dermatology residency at the University of California, San Diego and at St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London, U.K. He completed his Mohs surgery fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
He practiced in San Diego County, CA for over 25 years, both at University of California, San Diego and in private practice before moving Texas in 2009. There, he served as the Director of Mohs and Dermatologic Surgery in the Dermatology Department and residency program at Scott & White Medical Center. In 2012, he entered private practice in the Dallas, Texas area. He continues to teach dermatology residents as an adjunct professor of surgery at Campbell University.
Dr. Steinman is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery. He also co-founded the American Society for Mohs Surgery and co-directed their annual Fundamentals of Mohs Surgery Course for 25 years.
Dr. Steinman has co-authored two Mohs surgery textbooks, 12 textbook chapters, and 57 journal publications. He has been an invited speaker at dozens regional, national and international dermatology conferences.
He enjoys travel, reading science and history, playing the clarinet, and spending time with his wife and family, and spoiling his grandchildren.
