My role as EMS for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) has provided me with valuable insights into the transformative impacts of innovative practices in emergency medical services. I have adeptly navigated complex legal challenges, underscoring my commitment to enhancing patient outcomes specifically with prehospital whole blood administration.
Developing a prehospital blood program involved navigating legal complexities and requiring extensive communication with all parties involved to bring the program to fruition. Key elements of the program development included creating protocols and establishing a comprehensive training program for all EMS providers within our system. We also dedicated significant time to building a detailed quality management plan with the trauma centers. This focus on data-driven improvement has led to opportunities for me to share my knowledge on the national stage, including engagements with the Selective Prehospital Advanced Resuscitative Care (SPARC) Academy.
