Dr. Ayanna Lewis is a physician-researcher with a special interest in improving clinical outcomes for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients from diverse backgrounds. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology of the Department of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY. Currently, Dr. Lewis is the Director of the IBD Program at Mount Sinai West and Morningside hospitals. Her training has included clinical research using large data sets at a major IBD Center in Paris, France looking at dysplasia in IBD patients with post-inflammatory polyps and helping to develop international guidelines for the management of inflammatory bowel disease, the STRIDE II guidelines, as an advanced IBD fellow at the University of Miami. Her clinical work includes the comprehensive care of complex inflammatory bowel disease patients from diverse backgrounds as well as general gastroenterology. Her current research is focused on how telemedicine can be used to disseminate resources for IBD patients within a health system from a central IBD center.
