Rebecca McElyea
MSN RN CWOCN
CWOCN
UNC Chapel Hill

I'm Rebecca. I am a CWOCN at UNC-Chapel Hill (hospital and university). I am also a member of the United Ostomy Association and serve as a patient advocate. I have been in practice for over 10 years now and have worked with many different types of wounds, ostomies, and fistulas.

I grew up in a small town in Colorado and always loved helping people. After moving to North Carolina, I pursued a degree in Nursing and finished my education at Emory University where I received my CWOCN certification.

I have worked in many different settings, but my current position at UNC-Chapel Hill allows me to see a variety of patients with different needs. I am also able to provide education to medical students and residents, which is something I am passionate about.

I am inspired by Ostomy nursing because I know firsthand how difficult it can be to live with an Ostomy. I also know that with the right education and support, people can live full and happy lives with an Ostomy. I hope to provide that education and support to as many people as possible.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my two granddaughters. We love to be outdoors, whether we’re hiking, camping, or just playing in the yard. I also enjoy quilting and trying new recipes.

I love what I do and feel honored to be able to help patients through their journey. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at rebecca.mcelyea@unchealth.unc.edu
