Tanya Gouveia has been working in the field of substance use disorder treatment since 2008 in various treatment settings throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island. These settings include state prisons, county jails, 90-day residential programs and outpatient treatment. She is a graduate of Suffolk University holding two master’s degrees in Crime and Justice Studies and Public Administration. She is licensed to practice as a drug and alcohol counselor in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Since the 2016 legalization of marijuana in Massachusetts, Ms. Gouveia has vigorously researched the literature on the cannabis industry, peer reviewed scientific research, clinical barriers to treating cannabis use disorders, created treatment strategies for increased opportunity to achieve outcomes of abstinence as well as providing useful education on cannabis to assist in treatment and harm reduction outcomes. Over the last several years, she has presented trainings on cannabis education, treatment, and prevention as well as clinical strategies. She has presented nationally including the Smart Approaches to Marijuana Summit in Washington D.C., The Interdisciplinary Cannabis Symposium in Portland Oregon and the Cape Cod and East Coast Symposium on Addictive Disorders. Ms. Gouveia currently owns and operates Addiction Recovery Counseling, LLC. She is an adjunct professor at Bristol Community College teaching in the Substance Abuse Certificate Program since 2018 and she is also a Bureau Speaker for the National Marijuana Initiative.
