Martin Krsak, MD, MSc, FASAM is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Infectious Diseases Division at University of Colorado School of Medicine. His primary area of expertise is in infectious complications of substance use disorders, injection drug use, associated behaviors and circumstances, including commercial sex, homelessness and incarceration. Before joining the faculty in Colorado, he served as a clinical faculty in the specialties of internal medicine, infectious diseases and addiction medicine for Tufts University School of Medicine at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Massachusetts, a Department of Public Health/Department of Mental Health hospital serving indigent, incarcerated and substance misusing populations. His additional areas of interest include broader utilization of telemedicine and long-acting medications in various settings, including carceral systems.

Dr. Krsak grew up in Slovakia (former Czechoslovakia) and received his M.D. at Jessenius Medical Faculty, Comenius University in Martin, Slovakia. He completed internal medicine residency at Caritas (now Steward) Carney Hospital in Dorchester, MA (a Tufts University affiliate), and his infectious diseases fellowship at Tufts Medical Center, Lahey Hospital and Lemuel Shattuck Hospital combined training. During the fellowship training he also completed his M.Sc. in Clinical and Translational Medical Science at the Graduate (formerly Sackler) School of Biomedical Sciences. He then gained eligibility to become board certified in Addiction Medicine via Practice Pathway serving as the medical director of an inpatient detoxification program, as well as an internal medicine attending on a specialized inpatient service admitting patients with substance use disorders and an Office-Based Opioid Therapy (OBOT) program.
