Dr. Sbarbaro is an Assistant Professor within the College of Health Sciences Clinical Psychology Program at Midwestern University (MWU) in Downers Grove, Illinois. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Indiana University in 2010 and earned her first Master’s degree in Addiction Studies from the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies in 2011 (now known at the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies) . She received her second Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Midwestern University in 2015 and her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) from Midwestern University in 2018. She is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and a licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She is clinically trained in a variety of settings such as inpatient and outpatient substance use disorder treatment programs, psychiatric hospitals, university counseling centers, and private practices. Dr. Sbarbaro’s areas of specialty include motivational interviewing, drug and alcohol addiction, issues related to young adulthood, anxiety and trauma related disorders, psychological testing, and interdisciplinary education. Dr. Sbarbaro also conducted research exploring alternative approaches, such as hope, to enhance patient outcomes in substance use disorder treatment. She has provided CEU workshops as well as training sessions on Motivational Interviewing for psychologists, licensed professional counselors, dentists, pharmacists, physician assistants, and speech language pathologists. In addition to her academic and teaching responsibilities she is also currently provided psychological testing in private practice.
