Dr. Arnold currently serves as Professor and Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) where he has been on faculty for 13 years. His practice focuses on complex reconstruction of traumatic and oncologic defects as well as problems related to complex chronic wounds. His particular areas of clinical interest include chest and abdominal wall reconstruction, perineal and pelvic reconstruction, and extremity salvage. He is the former Medical Director of the University Wound Care Center at UMMC. Dr. Arnold served as the Chief of the Medical Staff at UMMC for eight years and the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Hospital Operations for the Health System for one year.
A native of Chapel Hill, NC, Dr. Arnold graduated from Davidson College prior to matriculating to the University of Tennessee, Memphis where he earned a PhD in somatosensory neuroelectrophysiology in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Waters. He earned his MD at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and went on to train in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Arnold’s research efforts are related to the use of dermal replacements in extremity salvage, augmentation of perfusion to wounds, and clinical outcomes in perineal reconstruction.
