Susan W. Volk, VMD, PhD is the Corinne R and Henry Bower Professor of Small Animal Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. As a clinician-scientist, she has had a long-standing clinical interest in wound healing, with a complimentary basic research program focused on cell-extracellular matrix in modulating progenitor and reparative cell activities during tissue repair. Recent work from her laboratory has defined cell-matrix interactions that regulate the wound healing-fibrosis-cancer triad. This NIH, private foundation, and industry-sponsored research has basic and translational components, including clinical trials in veterinary patients. Dr. Volk serves as President-elect of the Wound Healing Society and as a member of the Board of Directors of the North American Veterinary Regenerative Medical Association.
