Since becoming an Ostomy and Wound care nurse, Dr. Lia van Rijswijk has been actively involved in various aspects of wound care and in a variety of roles and settings, including nursing education, and has published more than 60 textbook chapters and articles in peer-reviewed and indexed journals. She is a graduate of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam Medical Center School of Nursing in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, obtained her Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification from the University of Dusseldorf Medical Center in Germany, her Masters of Science in Public Health Nursing from La Salle University School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA and her doctorate of Nursing Practice from West Chester University, also in Pennsylvania. Most recently she led the W.Cary Edwards School of Nursing and Health Professions at Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, NJ as their Chief Nursing Administrator and retired from her position as clinical editor of the journal Ostomy Wound Management after 25 years. Currently she serves as an editorial advisory board member for the Journal of Wound Ostomy Care Nursing, provides consulting services, and teaches at the W.Cary Edwards School of Nursing. Her research interests continue to be focused on improving the quality of wound care through testing and developing evidence-based guidelines and education strategies.
