McKeown Consulting LLC

Katie McKeown is a highly experienced neonatal nurse with over 20 years of expertise in neonatal care, including specialized roles as a PICC insertion nurse, wound and skin care nurse, and neonatal research nurse. She has played a pivotal role in national research studies focused on the neonatal population and is twice published on neonatal skin and wound care. Her research contributions have been shared nationally and internationally, and she has been instrumental in developing neonatal skin care policies at institutional, regional, and national levels.

Katie's primary focus is the extremely low birth weight (ELBW) neonate, addressing the unique skin challenges they face due to differing skin physiology from full-term infants. Her experience spans working in level 3 and level 4 NICUs, where she has gained extensive knowledge in managing surgical wounds, skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs), and other neonatal dermatological conditions.

An innovator at heart, Katie is the inventor of a patented device for neonatal line securement and umbilical wound prevention. In addition to her clinical work, she serves as a consultant on research protocols, skin and wound care, device production and evaluation, and educational initiatives for neonatal care teams. Katie is also a Family Nurse Practitioner, expanding her wound care expertise across diverse patient populations. Outside of work, she enjoys family life in Northern Kentucky with her husband and four children, and attends the University of Louisville as a PhD student.
