Dr. Wilgus is the immediate Past-President of the Wound Healing Society, and has held several other positions in the Society, including serving as President (2023-2024), Secretary (2016-2019) and Board of Directors member (2013-2016). Dr. Wilgus earned her B.S. degree in Microbiology and Ph.D. in Molecular Virology, Immunology, and Medical Genetics, both from The Ohio State University. She completed post-doctoral training at Loyola University-Chicago Medical Center, and was a Research Assistant Professor at University of Illinois-Chicago before becoming an Assistant Professor at Ohio State in 2008. She was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2015 and served in that role until 2024. She recently transitioned to industry, and currently works for Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Wilgus has been active in research, service and education over her career. Her research has primarily focused on the role of inflammation and angiogenesis in wound healing and scar formation, with a special interest in understanding the mechanisms of scarless healing in fetal skin.
